  16.             HELPFUL HINTS ON USING TERMINATE'S HOST Mini-BBS SYSTEM

  18.  Our TerHOST Support System is very much like a real BBS, in that you can
  19.  Upload/Download files, Read and Download Bulletins, View available Files,
  20.  Leave messages to the Sysop, Read/Reply to Echo (Message) Areas,
  21.  Access CD's, Play DOOR Games, etc.
  22.  Remember, TERMINATE is first and foremost, a Communications Program that
  23.  just happens to have an excellent HOST mode built in.

  47.  Select a FILE DIRECTORY;

  49.   To select a file directory, choose (A) from the MAIN MENU. You will be
  50.   presented with a list of available file areas. Simply choose the NUMBER
  51.   of the File Area you wish to view and hit <ENTER>.  You should see a
  52.   menu like this one.

  81.   When you select the NUMBER of the Directory you wish to view, you will
  82.   be sent back to the MAIN Menu. From there press (F)iles to view the
  83.   files in that area. You will then be presented with a short message
  84.   like....

  88.   Choose Y to view the files with their associated description. You will
  89.   then be presented with the file listing, starting with the newest files
  90.   first. For example, if you chose Directory 1 for the Terminate Files,

  115.  VIEW and MARK FILES IN DIRECTORY;
  116.  
  117.   As you scroll thru the various directories and see a file you
  118.   wish to Download, hit [M]ark to "Mark or Tag" a file for Downloading.
  119.   Then, at the prompt, type in the name of the file you wish to Download.
  120.   Wildcards are allowed ie; you can enter 400TER.ZIP, 400ter.* or 400*.*
  121.   to [M]ark Terminate v4.0 for downloading.
  122.   You can [M]ark as many files as you wish. When you've [M]arked all the
  123.   files you want, hit [N]o to return to the MAIN MENU.

  126.  DOWNLOADING FILES;
  127.  
  128.   To DOWNLOAD files, choose (D) for DOWNLOAD from the MAIN MENU. You
  129.   will be presented with a protocol menu, giving you the choices of a
  130.   variety of protocols.

  142.   For speed and reliability, we recommend using one of the Protocols
  143.   marked with an * but ONLY if you have that protocol properly setup
  144.   on YOUR system as well. If you're using TERMINATE, all you will need
  145.   it the protocol itself, as Terminate will automatically set it up
  146.   for you IF you have made it active in your Terminate Configuration.
  147.   (<ALT><O> - Protocol Options)

  149.   You will then be prompted for the name of the file(s) you wish to
  150.   download or hit ENTER to continue with the Download of your [M]arked
  151.   files.
  152.  
  153.   You can DOWNLOAD files from any directory listed however, you MUST
  154.   be in the CORRECT DIRECTORY ie; TERMINATE for Terminate and related
  155.   files. You can't for example, download LORD files from the WINDOWS
  156.   directory.
  157.  
  158.   Files must be downloaded one at a time, unless you have [M]arked 
  159.   files for batch downloading. Wildcards are permitted ie; 
  160.   if you want TMNICE42.ZIP, you could enter TMNICE42.* and receive the 
  161.   correct file. You can enter MULTIPLE files for downloading, such as;
  162.   TMNICE42.ZIP, 400TER.ZIP, HOSTMNU3.ZIP followed by hitting enter.
  163.  
  164.   There are no limits as to the number of files you can
  165.   download. You are limited only by your ONLINE time. New User's are
  166.   limited to 30 minutes ONLINE. If you need additional time to download
  167.   a large file, leave a Comment to the Sysop explaining why you need
  168.   more time. If it is for a single file, it can be placed "on hold"
  169.   for you so the next time you call, you will be able to download it
  170.   regardless of your available online time.
  171.  
  172.   NOTE: When at the MAIN MENU, you can hit [P] to bring up the PUBLIC MENU
  173.   which lists the 12 most popular Files & Utilities, where you only need
  174.   to select the letter representing the file you wish to download and
  175.   choose the protocol you wish to use.

  261.  UPLOADING FILES:

  263.   Files may be BATCH UPLOADED  or, one at a time. To upload files select 
  264.   (U) for UPLOAD from the MAIN MENU. You will be presented with a protocol 
  265.   menu. Just be sure the protocol you select supports BATCH uploading. 
  266.   We suggest ZMODEM. Then you will then be prompted to begin your upload(s). 
  267.   The files go to our special HOLDING directory, until we run them 
  268.   thru our Virus checker and place them into an online directory.
  269.  
  270.   NOTE: User's that consistently upload useful files, will have their
  271.   ONLINE TIME INCREASED as well as their SECURITY LEVEL, thereby allowing
  272.   more access on the system.

  351.   To change your PASSWORD, hit "1" and type in your CURRENT password, then
  352.   type your new password. You will be asked to re-type the new password to
  353.   be sure it is correct.
  354.   To change your Address, Phone Numbers, etc., choose "2". Just backspace
  355.   to delete the current information and type in the new info.
  356.

  358.  READ A TEXT FILE;
  359.  
  360.   If you know the name of the TEXT FILE you wish to read ie; you found a
  361.   .DOC, .TXT, CFG, etc., file listed in the file listings that you want to
  362.   read, hit the (T) key from the MAIN MENU. You MUST be in the correct
  363.   directory to view text files. At the prompt, type in the full name of
  364.   the file you wish to view.
  365.   For example, you must be in the QEMM\DESQView Support Directory to view
  366.   any of the more that 100 Technical Bulletins available.

  369.  CHAT WITH SYSOP;
  370.  
  371.   To enter in to the online CHAT mode, hit the (C) key from the MAIN MENU.
  372.   That will cause my computer to page me and, if I'm available. I will
  373.   respond. Your screen will split into two screens, one for what YOU type
  374.   and one for what I type.
  375.   If you have Terminate, all will be OK. If you use another communications
  376.   program, you MUST turn LOCAL ECHO to ON, otherwise you will not be able
  377.   to see what you type.

  380.  READ/REPLY TO MESSAGES;
  381.  
  382.   You can now Read as well as Reply to networked messages in selected
  383.   areas. Choosing (1) from the MAIN Menu, will bring up another menu of
  384.   currently available FIDOnet and TOADnet conferences.
  385.   Choose the number of the echo you wish to read, and hit enter. 
  386.   The messages in that echo will be presented to
  387.   you, starting with message #1. Use the arrow keys to move up and down
  388.   thru the messages. To READ a message, highlight the message header and
  389.   hit enter. To reply, just follow the menu at the bottom of the screen.

  553.  can TAG or MARK files for Downloading by entering the LETTER assigned to
  554.  that file. The number of files you can Download from the CD's IS limited

  558.  SIGN OFF/GOODBYE;

  560.   To leave our TerHOST System, use the (G) key for Goodbye. At the present
  561.   time, HOST still has a "small" problem logging you off so, hit the
  562.   ALT+H key on your keyboard, to hang up YOUR modem. That will effect an
  563.   immediate dis-connect and save you additional long distance phone charges.
  564.  
  565.   NOTE: This may or may not be a TerHOST problem but a problem with our
  566.         US Robotics modems. Whichever it is, please use the <ALT><H> keys
  567.         to HANGUP YOUR modem after using the [G]oodbye key and answering
  568.         the prompt "Are you sure you want to leave? [Y/N]". Thanks.
